Toenail Fungus FAQ
What type of laser treatment do you use at Clear Nails Colorado?
We utilize Astanza Revolution, which uses laser light to pass through the nail and the surrounding tissue to eliminate the fungus. The fungi pigment absorbs the laser light, causing it to heat up and become damaged. Our laser technicians will repeat the laser process several times until enough energy has reached your nail bed. Your nail will feel warm during the treatment, but it will not cause any pain.
How many treatments will I need to eliminate my toenail fungus?
About 70-80% of our patients only need to undergo one laser treatment! However, the amount of treatments you need depends on the severity of the infection on each toe.
How long do treatments take?
Laser treatments for toenail fungus usually takes about 20 minutes to treat 5 to 10 toes. Treatment times can vary, though, so ask your doctor prior to scheduling an appointment.
Do I need to do anything prior to the laser treatment?
If you are wearing any nail polish, it is advised you remove it before the treatment. A photograph is taken of the nails before the procedure for future reference of your nails’ progress.
Is there any downtime associated with toenail fungus laser treatments?
There is no downtime associated with laser treatments for toenail fungus. Directly after the procedure, your nail may feel warm for a few minutes and your toes may be red for a few hours, but you can resume daily activities immediately.
How soon will I know the laser treatment worked?
When the treatment is successful, you will see a new, healthy nail after a few months. Since nails can grow slowly, it may take a year to see an entirely clear nail, but you should see a clear area at the base of the nail within three months.
